Bhanuka Rajapaksa fined $ 5,000 by SLC for breach of player’s contract

Despite the punishment, the batter was included in the practice squad ahead of the Indian series

Sri Lankan batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been fined $ 5,000 for breach of contract and is essentially on probation for two years, after being given a one-year suspended sentence. SLC imposed these penalties for violating “the obligations of the 2019-2020 player contract by appearing in interviews on social networks and others,” according to an official statement.
Rajapaksa has publicly protested his continued omission from Sri Lanka’s main teams, more recently suggesting that he should have been part of the Sri Lanka squad for the England tour. It even elicited a response from head coach Mickey Arthur, who told the Isle newspaper that although Rajapaksa had “superb punching ability,” he was omitted due to an inferior battlefield, poor physical condition and poor weight management.

“Bhanuka failed the skinfold test and went home without doing the rest of the tests. It just shows me the attitude and the shortcuts he’s looking to take,” Arthur said. “We are building a culture of pushing players to perform at their best. We want our best players on the pitch. He would be part of our T20 squad. However, at the moment his skinfold count has increased. and he has to work on it. “

Despite the penalties, Rajapaksa was included in the biosecure bubble training squad which could be selected for the next series against India.
